Today I Have Been Spinning Green Silk
Today, and, well the last few days, I’ve been spinning some beautiful green silk.
Nothing unusual about that some of you may say, unless, of course you don’t spin. The thing is, I’ve been wanting to spin this silk for over a year but haven’t known how I should approach it. Then, I got scared to try in case I messed up. So, I didn’t, and just thought and thought about it.
I’ve become a bit obsessed watching some YouTube videos about spinning and I realised that I should just do it. Experiment and find out what happens! Now, if you talk to my kids, they would tell you that I’m probably the biggest “faffer” in the sense that I’ll fiddle around with alsorts of things so it’s not in my nature not to have a bit of a try.
The result, lovely fine thread. I could go finer but I want to ply it (spin it into a two ply thread with another single ply thread), with a soft merino wool of the same colour. As it’s my first attempt, I’m going to see what happens and hopefully come out with a rather luxurious scarf, we’ll see.
I’ll certainly keep you posted. Just to add to this post, I’ve decided to get a spinning wheel after Christmas when things settlie into winter evenings infront of the wood burner. I’ve been using a drop spindle up until now and I love it but I’d like to speed up my process so that I can make more things and have enough yarn to do lots of things. Now that does sound cosy, in front of the wood burner!

In front of the wood burner where I’ll be warm. Today the windows guy delivered my new windows and said he’d be back tomorrow morning to install them. He has a bit of a reputation for letting you down at the last minute but getting the job done eventually. I’m crossing everything since we have snow forecast for next week and it’s getting colder by the second and I feel as though winter is coming, and quicky.
