Spring Sprang And Winter Returned
Wow, I can’t believe how long it has been since I posted last time.
Okay so I can recap on the last few weeks and try to get up to date.
I have been painting my son’s bedroom and I’ve finished all but the bits that I can’t reach. I need new paint for this too and I’ve temporarily lost my motivation because it got cold. Too cold to paint! In the meantime, it was my daughter’s birthday and a special one so there were preparations to be made. We had a medieval theme, unknown to her and so preparations were a bit lengthy and in the end, we ran out of time.
In fact I got sick on the morning of the birthday and had to fit all my plans for the day to get everything ready, into just a couple of hours in the afternoon. I had intended to have a medieval hair do (no detail ignored!) but completely ran out of time and ended up with an up do secured in a pincer clip, or what ever you call them!
I did a medieval style portrait of the birthday girl with her dog and now I’ve been inspired to do one for each member of our family and to put them on our walls. I’ve started on mine and it’s slow progress so far as I’ve been having to finish other things first.
I have been spinning and loving it. Silk today. I’ve been nervous about trying to spin silk on my wheel since I usually spin it on my drop spindle but, and encouraged by my daughter, I decided to give it a go. It’s much faster on the wheel and after spinning my silk, I’ll ply it with a merino single and then I’ll just have some raw fleece to spin in the grease. Now that I am nervous about. It is very animal smelly and so I’ve been thinking it best to spin it outside. I’m sure my hands will get both softned from the lanolin and a bit mucky from the fleece which, I’ve been advised to spin, ply then wash. I’m nervous but excited.
Regarding renovations, I’m still waiting for my new door and also for my new windows to be finished off properly. I mentioned painting my son’s room. Well I’m also going to upcycle some furniture in my room as well as his and I should have the paint for that by next week so here’s hoping for a good result. I’m getting new handles and also have to fill in some holes from the old ones, before I actually start painting it.
Weather wise, as I mentioned in the title, spring sprang and winter returned! We’ve had snow and more to come next week. When will it ever end! Our recent delivery of wood is now right down and we don’t really want to replenish it at this stage so we’re on rations again, lighting a fire in the evenings around 6 pm and getting warm before we go to bed which is a very tedious way of having to live and keep warm but hey ho!
Here’s hoping for a big effort on my part to post more frequently. I’m restless and would like to go into my studio to create, including blog but it’s too cold. Hurry up spring, I want you back please!
