From Spinning To Upstyling!

I haven’t written in a long time, nearly a month.

I don’t really want this blog to become just a daily account of my activities but a few things have happened since last writing.
One of my daughter’s had Covid which took us by surprise and we were a bit laid back about it and almost dismissed it as flu but I insisted on a test which was positive. Ggggrrrr when will it all end! After being so careful for three years and to go down with it now. We’d had a trip to IKEA and decided to try mask-less it sort of slapped us in the face so I’ve decided that the Universe doesn’t want me to ditch my mask just yet.
I’ve been doing lots of spinning and ordered some raw fleeces to spin up “In the grease” again. They arrived last week after I’d been out for a lovely rustic lunch in another hamlet nearby! I actually met another spinaholic at the lunch and he’s given me some new fleece outlets to explore so I’m excited!

I have been spinning up the wool and have spun a skein each of the beige and the ecru and I’m on the dark brown. I bought the lighter fleeces to experiment with natural dying which I will do soon but I absolutely love the dark brown. With the light tips, it gives a copper fleck and glint. I am spinning it raw so the colour will lift. It is full of lanolin and glistens with it. It’s wonderful, I’m just obsessed!

I have also decided to knit or crochet the wool in its natural colour state and will tackle some fairisle type patterns with the natural colours, which are beautiful.

I have been making over some bedside tables (nightstands) in my and my son’s rooms. I’ve never done it before with the proper materials and haven’t been pleased with the results but this time I’m thrilled.

My room is much brighter and airier. I have at least one more piece to paint. I’ve been making up my mind but I’m going to go for it. My room has started to become lovely instead of a bit gloomy!

My garden is now calling for attention and I need to dig it over ready for my veg. I haven’t done as I’d hoped and added nutrients to the soil so it’s going to be a race now to get it ready. I also need to make a bonfire as I have an absolute ton of branches to burn. I’ll dig in the ashes which should do the soil some good.

Watch this space for more news on the furniture as well as my spinning antics and knitting and crochet adventures as well as my gardening escapades. You can see my occasional videos on Youtube at Jan’s Rustic Life channel.

I’m leaning towards some vintage styles, so check back for news.

In the meantime, I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Easter!
