Wood Day
This morning started out as one of those beautiful autumnal mornings here. It’s 1 October and it has begun sith hope of a lovely month after September’s wash out.
The clouds were forming that familiar soft carpet that makes you feel as though you could walk across them to the mountains opposite. They were just starting to break up as I took the photo. I love the feeling of being free and on top of the world.

I have to work every day but today I have to do less than normal to prepare for and put away the wood when it comes after lunch. I’m hoping to get a bit of knitting in before we have to spring into action!
Knitting time ended I realised that I had some spun wool to wash. When I spin my wool and make it into skeins, I have to just lightly wash in tepid water then bash it a little bit which slightly fluffs up the yarn. As its such a warm and beautiful day, I decided to wash the yarn and get it dry as I think rain is forecast tomorrow.

I think they look so beautiful when they are drying on my line.

When the wood is about to arrive, there is a low rumbling noise for a while. It gets closer and closer, louder and louder until it stops.
The tractor which carries the wood on a trailer. A couple of minutes more and a crash as the wood is emptied onto the floor.

The wood mountain is huge and is far too much to go into our neighbours shed that you can see in the background.
It took our family team of four, around an hour and a three quarters to put it all away. It’s a great feeling though when it’s all away. I’m not a fussy person who insists on having the wood put away neatly. I just don’t have a whole day to dedicate to it and we have to transport it nearer to our cellar using a wheel barrow so it just gets thrown in to form a sort of organised pile.

My wood cellar needs organising but there is enough space for our wood. We can normally get by with two deliveries like this one but if it’s cold and we’re burning our two wood burners full time we need three and possibly a bit more.
It’s a great feeling to see all of the wood in the cellar and the wood scent is amazing. Tonight we decided on a Chinese takeaway meal instead of our normal hot soup after our hard work.
A relaxing evening and probably early to bed. We’ll all be a bit achy in the morning!
