Christmas Spirit And New Ceiling

I haven’t posted for such a long time.

I am the type of person who can’t settle if I know that someone is coming, whether to visit or do some work. I can’t just carry on as normal, I’ve tried but I get very twitchy, if you know what I mean.

Now you know that my chap to make my insulating panel ceilings more pretty didn’t come, well, the next day I went for my Covid booster as did my son. No ill effects, thank goodness as I was still sleeping on the floor!

n Monday morning, I received a message saying that he’d be arriving between 9.30 and 10.00 with all of the equipment needed to make a start!

He arrived after 10.00 but with all of his stuff and he made a start. I am terrible, and expect things to be done really quickly. As I am no expert, I always wonder why things take so long. Well after the first day we had four panels in place.

Just under two thirds of my room was panelled and I felt positive that it would all be over soon.

My room was finished by Wednesday afternoon. Well finished to a ready to be painted stage, which I’m doing myself.

All the joins and screw holes have been filled in. Two coats of the filler were given and everything smoothed down. I need to prime and paint with two coats. Or just paint with three coats. The primer recommended has quartz grains in it to give a rougher texture and I was told that this is used to give a more rustic finish. I’m not sure what I want yet.

By Thursday morning all of the panels were up in the other room and Friday saw the completion of all of the filling. Now all we have to do is clean and put all of our stuff back.

By the way, I put all of the furniture back into my room on Wednesday, as soon as I possible could and I actually slept in my own bed. The first time in over a week!

I am going to try to paint the walls and ceilings, well start, before Christmas, but there is so much to be done that I might have to wait until after Christmas. I am very impatient though to see the cleaner lines and the finished look. I’m going to get a new bed and wardrobe too so my excitement is building to have everything done and to just enjoy it.

Meanwhile I had a new mini knitting project which was some nordic gloves in my own home spun (on a drop spindle), wool. I finished them this evening and I’m pleased. They need to be blocked but they are very warm and I think stylish!

Home spun wool is more uneven than the regular wool you buy but that’s why I like it. It’s more alive some how. I’m keen to try more but I also want to knit up my silk merino ply and have an idea in the pipeline.

Today saw a lovely Sunday lunch too. Then some family Christmas decoration crafting. using some pine cones we collected from around our village. Everything looked very cosy in my studio tonight and I had that feeling of contentment and satisfaction. Mind you next week is going to be hectic as we approach Christmas day!

Tomorrow, I have presents to wrap and put under the tree, as well as this season’s first batch of mince pies!
