The Day Of The Birthday
Today started very quietly. I was tired after faffing until late with this blog to get it to look better. I’m still not there yet but by the time you find it, I’ll most likely have got it looking more to the way I’d like it.
I have to work, every day all year, no days off but at least it’s from home. It’s not working for myself which would be different it’s for other people. It’s not easy to summon up the enthusiasm of your own business and dedicate every day of your life making money for someone else but, it’s got us through the last few years so I’m not going to complain.
After work and a birthday lunch, I made a big chocolate cake. I took my time and enjoyed the process. I’m normally in a rush but now I have reached the time of life where I can do without the hassle of rushing and not enjoying the things I do, so I made the cake. Don’t get me wrong, I still just bunged everything in the processor and poured the resulting goo into a cake tin and slapped it in the oven for 50 minutes but it always turned out and is always a hit with my kids.
We didn’t have enough cocoa for me to do my usual butter cream for the filling and icing so I used my Easter egg that I still hadn’t eaten to melt and put into the butter cream / icing. I’m not a milk chocolate kind of a gal so the plain chocolate was perfect to give a good chocolate flavour.

We ended our family party with the Lord of The Rings Monopoly. I haven’t played Monopoly for years and sort of just decided to play along to make the evening but hey, I actually enjoyed it!
I’ve resolved to write a bit every day even just a few lines. I’m also hoping to do a section on memories of life here up the hill in rustic land which should be fun!
