Sunday, Family Lunch And Gardening!
Today started quietly. I slept later and when I did get up, it was straight into work. Yay, there wasn’t much for me but I do get some at midday so I can’t really start anything else until it has come in and been finished!
Sundays mean family lunch. Well every day is family lunch but we make a special effort for Sunday which is lovely. Before eating though, I grabbed my son and we went back down into the garden to strim. I was working on the overhanging vine on my patio and he set to strimming the rest of my garden from where he left off yesterday!
It’s amazing just how quickly things grow here in the warmer weather. In the summer it got very hot. So hot that things stopped growing which is just as well since it was too hot to work in the garden.
Recently though, while still warm to hot, the temperature was slightly cooler than the aggressive heat of summer and we also had rain. This has meant that the plants feel revived and have gone mad! After a couple of weeks of heavy-ish rain then warm sunshine, my garden needed some care. It is lovely though to see some plants that I thought I’d lost, come back to life.

It’s certainly a great way to work up an appetite, gardening. I always seem to go down there when I don’t have a lot of time to devote to it. That means that I work flat out and get more done. My hurry this today was our family Sunday lunch.
I don’t like leaving a job unfinished in the garden but I had to today. I have a pile of raked up prunings and leaves that need to be put onto my compost heap. Here most people burn their garden waste. It’s the easiest way and the ashes can be spread out and mixed into the soil. I haven’t had my bonfire yet as the weather was so dry I wanted to wait until it was damper. I also have a pepper plant and some chilli plants that are still doing very well so I’m loath to abandon the veg. patch just yet. I did abandon however, a huge grasshopper that landed on my sunlounger. Not while I was on it I hasten to add! I was too busy working.

After a long, very leisurely lunch, I spent a quiet afternoon making progress with a knitting project. I’m so glad I learned how to speed knit. It makes a huge difference in finishing a piece.
I had hoped to get out with my new camera to take some photos to use for my art work but it clouded over, so once again I’ll have to be patient.
I made a lovely vegetarian grain soup for supper, it’s a family favourite. You can tell that the evenings are getting cooler and winter will soon be here.
