A Day Of Everything
A day of everything sounds quite exciting doesn’t it? Actually thinking about it, it hasn’t been a day of everything. I didn’t manage to paint. No, I thought I’d managed everything today!
I was a bit organised last night. I realised that often some of my work comes in early and is there on a Saturday morning, so, I took my computer to bed with me. How romantic! I do less work on weekends and I didn’t want to wait until midday for my work in order to build up my stats, so I thought that if my work was in early I could do my targets and finish early so that I could get on with the other things that I need to do. It worked well. I did my work still in bed and got up to breakfast and face the rest of my Saturday, work free!
After breakfast and cleaning up, I had the luxury of playing my guitar and recorders. I recently went back to teaching myself after starting to teach myself at the age of 10. It’s nothing fancy, I love classical guitar. I’m not very advanced but love playing and get a real sense of achievement when I learn a new piece. I also have dipped in and out of recorder playing over the years since my dad taught me to play at the age of 4. My recent Christmas and birthday presents have been different size recorders and so now I have the main family of soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
As if all that time to play music weren’t enough, I decided to have a quick spin on my drop spindle. “steady on” too much excitement now. I love spinning. I love wool and yarn so to produce my own, for me, is absolutely wonderful and very satisfying. I’m in a rush to spin up the fibre that I have on hand so that I can make some hats and perhaps a cardigan. I’ve been spinning merino wool recently but today it was cream coloured Corriedale wool, which is a pleasure to spin.
My daughters were out getting another Covid vaccine so I started the lunch while they were coming home. I also took a few minutes to knit. I’m keen to get my fluffy top finished. I want onto the balcony to know. It is so, so hot at the moment. I can’t quite believe that we are only a few days away from November. The old wing of the house is feeling much warmer at the moment too. I’m not sure whether or not it is to do with the weather or the panels that I have nearly finished putting onto the upstairs ceilings.
After lunch and coffee, it was back to panelling. I had a tricky part to do today. Above the stairs has nowhere to put my ladder so I had to ask for the whole family to steady the ladder as I hung on to measure, prepare and stick the panels. How surprising when we found a way to balance each panel on my long handled dust pan, line it up and push it into place with the dust pan and a flat “swiffer” mop without any cloth. The job was both much quicker than I thought it would be, as well as faily neat! I’ve been worrying about that part for days.
After finishing one ceiling, all but a couple of small pieces that can be added at the very end, I carried on with my room. I managed to finish what I’d planned for today and clear up. It’s mucky work, as the panels were stored in the cellar of the window man for a while, so as cut them the dust is flying up and all over me. After I finished I quick and welcome cuppa, then a lovely shower. It was a lovely, if very warm for the time of year, evening.

I’d planned a quiet evening which is what I got. I watched a film, then bed!
